Medical Word of the Day: Ileal Conduit

Ileal conduit: A surgical procedure in which the normal flow of urine is diverted through a segment of the small bowel (the ileum) to a collection bag outside of the abdomen; also called a urostomy. Ileal conduits may be performed when the bladder has been removed (for example, when a person has bladder cancer).
