Medical Word of the Day: dacryocystorhinostomy

Dacryocystorhinostomy: surgical creation of a passage for drainage between the lacrimal sac and the nasal cavity; used to treat patients diagnosed with lacrimal sac or nasolacrimal duct obstruction; this can be caused by chronic stenosis of the nasolacrimal duct and can be congenital or acquired. Obstruction of the nasolacrimal dcut is common but is not a serious condition.
